Through the satellite tournaments conducted by PokerStars, Chris Moneymaker won the 2003 World Series of Poker championship and Greg “Fissilman” Raymer won the championship in 2004.  Another World Series of Poker champion, Joe Hachem, is also on the team, though he was not sponsored by the online poker site at the time.

Today, PokerStar.com is home to around 120,000 players that enjoy playing at the online tables on a regular basis.  Here, players can view their hand histories in order to analyze their games.
The main event sponsored by the PokerStars website is its Sunday Million tournament.  The tournament, which has a buy in of $215, offers a guaranteed million dollar prize pool.  The site also debuted a new event, the Sunday Hundred Grand, in July of 2007.  This event attracts up to 22,500 players at a time, which makes it largest real-money poker tournament.  In fact, the previous record was only 10,894 players.  In March 2008, the event was won by Annette Obrestand, who won $20,000 for her first place finish.

PokerStars is also the home of the World Championship of Online Poker, which his the world’s largest online poker tournament.  More than 20,000 players join in the real money ring games that take place each day.  In addition, thousands more participate in the real money tournaments and in the free-play games.

In addition to its World Championship of Online Poker tournament, PokerStars also sponsors the European Poker Tour.  The site also sponsored the PokerStars Caribbean Poker Adventure, which was an event on the World Poker Tour.  Although the event is no longer part of the World Poker Tour, the event is now part of the European Poker Tour.  As a result of the site’s involvement in poker on so many levels, it was named the “Best Poker Operator of the Year” by eGaming Review.
